Gossip Girl

In light of the fact that gossip seems to make the world go 'round, here are some of my favorite quotes regarding the topic...

"What you don't see with your eyes, don't witness with your mouth" ~Jewish Proverb

"Whoever gossips to you will gossip about you." ~Spanish Proverb

"It is one of my sources of happiness never to desire a knowledge of other's people business." ~Dolley Madison

"It's not what they say about you, it's what they whisper." ~Errol Flynn

"The biggest liar in the world is They Say." ~Douglas Malloch

Gossip does damage. Lies spread as truth, while happening constantly, serve no purpose other than to hurt or tear down another. We have "friends" we confide in and sometimes life throws a curveball to reveal that half the world knows your secrets. 90% of the time, I am so open - especially on here - that when others catch wind, I could care less. But it's the "false advertising" of a true knowledge of the inner workings of my life that puzzle me. Why must some delight in the misery of others? Does it really make a person feel better about themselves if all those around them are torn to shreds?

It's funny how the "Golden Rule" can apply to everything and how blissfully wonderful this world would be if more people actually followed it...Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We learn it as kids, but somewhere on the growing up train, we seem to toss it to the side. So, the next time you get that juicy piece of info about a "frenemy" that you love to obsess over...count to ten, bite your tongue, and ask yourself how would you feel if the same were happening to you. We all talk. God knows I learned it from all the little old ladies in church who had to know everything about everyone (hmmm...hypocracy, maybe?) but when it gets lethal, it's time to cut each other some slack.

That's all for this mornings blurb. Gotta get to work.
