Don't You Worry Your Pretty Little Mind...

...people throw rocks at things that shine. That line may be one of my most favorite lyrics ever. How often do you let the thoughts and opinions of others creep into your psyche and take over? It makes me think of a song I learned in Sunday School when I was little. This Little Light of Mine. Most of you know it. Some of you may not. Whatever your belief system, it's still a pretty rockin' song. Let your light shine. No matter what.

Life can get ugly. Complicated. Hard. Stressful. Sad. Lonely. Bittersweet. Whatever word you choose describe a yucky situation, you still have a light inside of you. One so special, so unique, that it is yours and yours alone. Don't try to contort it to fit whatever you think it should be. Just be you. Be the best you that there can be. Trends, lemmings, copies, groupies, drones. They are all so boring! Sure it's easy to swim with the current and blend in. Shoot. Half the time, I feel like it takes far less energy to do that. But, you have to be careful. While we all deserve a break from time to time, that doesn't mean you have to change what makes you, you.

No one wants to be on the bottom. Lately it seems no one is even satisfied with second place. But instead of trying to better themselves or trying a little harder, they resort to attacks. If you are "on top" because you have perfected the art of tearing down others...that's just not cool. It's sad to see these "life lessons" taught by idiots show up at school. I've heard people say that kids can be so cruel. Yes, that is true. But, have you ever thought that maybe it's because they haven't perfected the art of lying yet and are just being honest and practicing what their "role models" have taught them?? Chew on that for a little bit.

We all have the ability to be amazing. Just being yourself in a world that tries so hard, everyday, to turn you into something you are not is a victory in itself. How many faces does one person need? How many lies and deceptions must one tell before they lose track themselves? It's both sad and (sadistically) rewarding to see a web of lies crumble under the truth. To watch someone try to back pedal as fast as possible so as to not get caught. And we wonder why kids lie? What examples do they see?

Before this turns into an exhausted ramble, I will get to my point for the evening. We all have our own definitions of hard or tough or success or failure. Everything is subjective. Just know that sitting on a high horse made out of quicksand probably won't get you very far. And to all the "little people" that get picked on, made fun of, told they are "different," or just don't seem to appear "normal"...normal is boring and overrated. Be unique. Be special. Be one of a kind. Be you. Because you know what? No one else can do you better than you can :)
